Finca Renacer and Fincafé are two arms of the same mission: ensuring the quality and traceability of the beans, striving for quality in everything, and maintaining the sustainability of the plantation while respecting our human resources so that coffee remains at the heart of our heritage. This is why we have adopted some of the objectives of the UN's sustainable development strategies. A legacy of ethical coffee through direct trade.
Discover our objectives
Thus, among the seventeen (17) objectives of the sustainable development plan (ODDS / SDGS) , ten (10) particularly concern us and are applied as much by the Finca Renacer plantation as by Fincafé.
Goal 1: Eliminate poverty in all its forms everywhere

Finca Renacer provides employment to around a hundred workers, including several women during the harvest season, and thus contributes to the economic growth of a mountainous region with little economic development. Eliminating poverty begins with stable employment and a decent income, hence the contribution of Fincafé, which markets the plantation's produce and thus provides stable employment.
Goal 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture

We provide the plantation employees with healthy, nutritious food and sufficient nutrition by providing them with three meals a day. A cook is on site year-round to manage meals, menus, and produce, reduce waste and losses, ensure the sanitation of the kitchen, and manage food distribution among employees. This way, we know that at least these families will be safe from hunger as long as they are employed at Finca Renacer. We cannot do this at the territorial or state level, but we contribute in our own way to the working families.
In addition, Finca Renacer rents market garden land near Matagalpa, reserved for growing the beans so dear to Nicaraguan meals. This guarantees a constant supply of quality beans at a lower cost!
Goal 3: Enable healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages and promote sustainable agriculture

This objective aims at broad targets in order to reduce communicable diseases, infant mortality, accidents, etc. At the plantation level, the contribution is more in the order of the constant presence of a qualified nurse with the equipment and products necessary for rapid intervention in the event of problematic situations. If the budget allowed it, it would be interesting for this nurse to have a proper dispensary, equipped with the products necessary to maintain the health of employees' children and prevention among workers.
Goal 4: Ensure equitable, inclusive and quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all

Sustainable development is fueled by individual education. Currently, the Renacer plantation is taking small steps in this area with young people and local communities through direct interventions with individuals targeted for their interest and involvement. For example, the plantation's administrator and manager was able to obtain her university degree in Agricultural Engineering thanks to the plantation's financial involvement. Three employees' children also received financial support during their studies (...), and plan to join the ranks of the plantation teams upon completion of their studies. Also, the primary school in the village of San Antonio has been able to receive an annual budget to obtain new supplies (dictionaries, pencils, notebooks, etc.) for new classes since 2015.
Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Gender inequality is still deeply rooted in all societies. Almost everywhere, women suffer from a lack of access to decent work and are subject to occupational segregation and gender pay gaps. In many situations, they are denied access to education and basic healthcare and are victims of violence and discrimination. This is what we have been fighting from the beginning at Finca Renacer: the management of the plantation is carried out by a woman who has had access to a high level of education and is supported by the plantation's budget. Reporting to her are the foremen of the plantation and specific activities (food crops), who are also responsible for enforcing wage regulations that eliminate wage gaps and promote equitable hiring between men and women.
Goal 6: Ensure access for all to sustainably managed water supply and sanitation services

Water is an abundant commodity on the plantation. Compliance with laws such as riverbank protection, the filtration of coffee wash water in five basins, the avoidance of direct discharge of this water into rivers and streams, the provision of running water to workers' dormitories, and the installation of water collectors are all examples of rules implemented to respect the plantation's water resources.
Obj.8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

In the face of the global challenge of eradicating poverty, we are participating in our commitment to create jobs for vulnerable groups, particularly women, youth, unemployed rural workers and low-income urban dwellers.
Objective 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization that benefits everyone, and encourage innovation

Paragraph 2 of the Declaration recalls that "industrialization is an engine of development. Industry increases productivity, stimulates job creation and generates income. It thus contributes to poverty eradication and serves other development objectives, and provides opportunities for social inclusion, including by promoting gender equality, the empowerment of women and girls and the creation of decent jobs for young people. As it develops, industry generates ever greater value addition and leads to a greater application of science, technology and innovation, thus encouraging greater investments in training and education, and channeling resources to achieve broader goals of inclusive and sustainable development."
Objective 12: Establish sustainable consumption and production patterns

Goal 12 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is to establish sustainable consumption and production patterns. Sustainable consumption and production, as defined by the Oslo Symposium in 1994, concerns "the production and use of goods and services that meet basic needs and contribute to improving the quality of life, while minimizing the use of natural resources, toxic materials and the emission of waste and pollutants, throughout the life cycle, so as not to endanger the needs of future generations." Thus, crucial choices were made to eliminate highly toxic products, the rational and calculated use of mature trees in the plantation, the protection of virgin jungle areas, the elimination of food waste by farm animals and the intelligent disposal of industrial waste.
Objective 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts

Finca Renacer, like its neighbors, is very sensitive to this aspect since the plantation has been experiencing the consequences of climate change for several years after certain extreme events of a magnitude never before seen. by winds, rains and their consequences. To counter the force of violent winds, resistant varieties are adopted like Marsellese; for heavy rains, drainage channels and wooden walkways have been built; against global warming which favors the spread of coffee rust, a diversification of resistant varieties, the planting of fruit trees and the diversification of so-called noble tree species allow for a rich permaculture rather than a single monoculture of coffees.
Goal 15: Preserve, restore and ensure sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss

This objective no. 15 is the cornerstone of the development of the plantation and the development plans for the plots in production and those to come.
